Description:
DSWCN has been implementing the “Child Protection and Community Engagement Sponsorship Program” in Samsi and Ekdara Rural Municipalities in Mahottari district with funding support from World Vision International Nepal. This sponsorship project is dedicated to working for MVC (Most Vulnerable Children) and VC (Vulnerable Children) and their families, providing them access to education and improving their living conditions. The project is implemented in coordination with local governments and community schools.

Objectives:
The main objective of the project is to improve the care and development of children within families and communities.

Major Activities:

  1. Registered and supported the RC (Registered Child).
  2. Supported educational materials and empowered children, teachers, and parents.
  3. Provided various types of training to children on child rights.
  4. Supported Rupantaran classes for Youth and Child Clubs members.
  5. Organized health camps in working palikas.
  6. Coordinated and collaborated with local stakeholders.
  7. Supported local government in End Child Marriage activities.
  8. Assisted local government in formulating guidelines related to child wellbeing.
  9. Supported local government in activities for Child-Friendly Palikas.

Achievements:

  1. Taught 34 members of the Samsi and Ekdara R.M. Child Clubs in leadership and capacity building.
  2. Formed 7/7 CRC (Child Rights Committee) in Samsi/Ekdara RM.
  3. Completed the sponsorship orientation in both the AP.
  4. Completed the “Children with Mayor” initiative in Ekdara.
  5. Developed and approved the LLCA (Local Level Child Act) Plan at both RM levels.
  6. Successfully conducted health screening camps enrolling 7250 children with records.
  7. Constructed 2 bio-sand filters each in Samsi and Ekdara.
  8. Registered 400 kids for CED (Child Education Development) classes.
  9. Showcased a drama surrounding the end of child marriage with the launch of the Child Club.
  10. Created an anti-child marriage act for both Palikas.
  11. Organized 3-day Sponsorship Basic Training (SBT model) for staff and partner NGO staff.
  12. Mobilized peer educators to carry out sessions with participants and handed them over to the local government.
  13. Conducted and monitored capacity building on community groups relevant to existing TPs (Technical Programs) by the Representative body on WV’s identity.
  14. Formed/reformed and built the capacity of school-based child clubs on child protection and participation.
  15. Conducted Quality Benchmark Monitoring by PNGO (Quarterly).
  16. Conducted a 16-day GBV (Gender-Based Violence) campaign in coordination with Ekdara and Samsi municipalities.
  17. Trained 21 community ECCD (Early Childhood Care and Development) facilitators on Transitional ECCD.
  18. Conducted 2 orientation events on the sponsorship approach (standards) to government and community stakeholders, including RCs and Non-RCs.
  19. Supported RCs and MVCs to address their critical/emergency needs.
  20. Mobilized peer educators to carry out sessions with participants.
  21. Conducted parental sessions on life skills (mobilized peer educators).
  22. Organized a CEW (Child Education Week) Event with meaningful engagement of RCs.
